Christopher Wood has over 40 years experience in the art world. He is a member of SLAD - Society of London Art Dealers and BADA - British Antique Dealers Association.
Former director of Christie's and Mallett, Christopher Wood specialises in Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian paintings, watercolours and drawings; also Arts & Crafts Movement and gothic revival furniture, sculpture and ceramics.
The Christopher Wood Gallery was founded in Motcomb Street, Belgravia, in 1977; Christopher Wood now works privately from an office in St James's.
He is the author of The Dictionary of Victorian Painters - first published in 1971, and still the standard work of reference. His other books include Victorian Panorama, Paradise Lost, Olympian Dreamers, The Pre-Raphaelites, Tissot, Burne-Jones, Painted Gardens, The Great Art Boom, Victorian Painting and Fairies in Victorian Art. His biography of William Powell Frith, the great painter of Victorian life, was published in October 2006.
Christopher Wood also lectures on a range of subjects including The Pre-Raphaelites, Art & Money: 40 Years in the Art Market, Fairies in Victorian Art, The Life and Work of Philip de László, and English 19th Century Artists in Venice. He has appeared on the BBC Antiques Roadshow for a number of years; and in 1990 wrote and presented a television series for Channel 4, entitled 'Painters to the People'.
